The figure of the monster has had many interpretations over the years. First known as a mythological and fictional being, it has evolved to become a representation of human misery. In this article we will talk about the representation of one of those miseries: madness. We will be in front of a very broad concept with plenty of meanings and that is why we will need to limit the work to a certain type of madness. We will start with Michel Foucault's contribution to this subject, and then we will focus on that monstrous figure that we are talking about. On the other hand, we will bring some possible definitions or conjectures with two novels that seem to be suggestive but perfectly represent the role that the monster plays in society. Based in Montevideo of the 90s we will see how the two main characters can perfectly adapt to the concepts that we will be working. Felipe Polleri makes us viewers of the story in Colores and in Carnaval, where the character defines himself as a monster. Along this work we will try to be able to ask ourselves what our role as society is, in the framework of experiences and ways of acting, that makes those who suffer from a pathology not only deal with the meaning of that but also deal with the rejection, marginalization, discrimination and even repression from their environs.
