El Tercer espacio y la posmodernidad en Herejes de Leonardo Padura

Abstract

In the context of human movements, it is recurrent to find situations of conflict and cultural negotiation, given that moving from one country to another also implies changes in the culture in which people are immersed, in which the incursion of the Third space where cultures meet, changes according to the history of the country of origin, according to the history of the new culture where it is inserted, and according to the personal history that each migrant carries as baggage in his migratory journey. In the particular case of the Latin American context in the novel Herejes by Leonardo Padura, it is possible to trace the cultural changes that are reflected in the identity of some of its characters due to the transculturality that operates in the story. The analysis is carried out on the basis of the conceptual categories of hybridity, transculturality and Third space proposed by García Canclini, Alfonso de Toro and Homi Bhabha; in this way, the spatial and temporal borders through which migrants pass are described, as well as those borders that become installed in the subconscious, creating the constant conflict and negotiation characteristic of hybridity in Postmodernity.
