Água e terra: memória, vida e morte em Nostalgia de la luz e El botón de nácar

In this article, we intend to make some considerations about the documentaries Nostalgia de la luz (2010) and El botón de nácar (2015), directed by the Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán. Our objective is to observe that memory operates by fragments while life leaves traces and, also, to observe how human beings react to their psychological struggles concerning water and earth, two primitive elements. Therefore, we address some concepts from, Bachelard and Seligmann-Silva, among other theorists, in order to analyse the imaginary project sustaining the documentaries. We also intended to comment on the dialogue that exists between Guzmán's creations.
