“Conservas” y Distancia de rescate: la narrativa fantástica de Samanta Schweblin a la luz de la (no) maternidad

Abstract

This text reviews the concept of the fantastical in part of the work of Samanta Schweblin (Buenos Aires, 1978). In these pages I propose to refer your story "Conservas" and her first novel Distancia de rescate from the fantastic genre, which due to its characteristics (fracture the conventional reality) facilitates talking about taboos and secrets. I think it´s important to emphasize that in contemporary narrative the fantastical literature not only creates monsters and extraordinary situations powerful, it also allows us to qualify the harshness of certain themes, among them: abortion and the denial of motherhood, that in our conservative society they have space only if they are covered with fantasy.
