Abstract

Baja California Sur’s geopraphical situation throughout history, has had an undeniable impact on its cultural development. Combined with this, it also exists a perception of an “island-like” model of life that has permeated for centuries. It’s not until 1974 that the transition from territory to state is reached, directly related to a more stabilized communication dynamic, including land, air and sea, towards the exterior. This “island-like” model had its influence over the belated development of a local litterature; which itself had a slow transit on its way to autonomy, and a limited potential to find a place on the stage of national litterature. This paper presents a picture of those writers, focused on the ones that write prose, that have walked through the XXth century and the first years of the XXIst, in Baja California Sur. There are not many active writers that work with novel and short stories; which makes possible the excercise of painting a panoramic view centered on the different generations.
